Evaluating 2011-2012 Winter Propane Prices

Many propane consumers are busy with holiday events and family matters during the winter season. At the same time, most propane consumers are using most of their annual propane consumption as their heating equipment is consistently operating. As the 2011-2012 winter heating season winds down, propane consumers should take some time to carefully review propane prices that were paid during the winter heating season and evaluate ways to reduce their propane prices and propane fees during the following winter heating season. By conducting a post-winter propane cost evaluation, you may discover that other propane suppliers in your area have been charging consistently lower propane prices and may be able to help you save money on your future propane service. A post-winter propane cost evaluation includes the following basic steps:

Obtain your propane supplier receipts from all propane deliveries received since the unofficial beginning of the winter heating season - October 1st. If you do not have all of your propane receipts with detailed costs, contact your propane supplier to request a print-out showing all propane costs, including propane prices and propane fees, charged since October 1st.

Contact each competing propane supplier in your area and request the same information. Ask each supplier for a report showing it's propane prices charged by week and applicable service fees for a customer with your basic profile (for example, a customer with a company leased tank using approximately 800 gallons since October 1st). If the propane tank on your property is leased, make sure that you find out the propane tank leasing fee charged by all other propane suppliers in your area for a similar size propane tank.

As part of your propane service fee and propane pricing research, you should contact your neighbors to find out how much they are paying for their propane service. Your neighbors may have information to share to help you save money on your future propane service (i.e. a low price propane supplier recommendation, information regarding a local propane buyers group, etc).

With the information above, you will have valuable information to update your propane service file regarding service fees and propane prices charged by other propane suppliers during the winter season of 2011-2012. This comparison information may provide useful information in the future if you are searching for a new propane supplier in your area in the future.
